The Story Tree

The Story Tree is a 7-minute animated preschool series (ages 2–5) that blends adventure, comedy, music, and Indigenous culture to explore the foundational teaching that everything in nature has a story and everything is connected.

Nestled in a lush, land-based Cree village where people live in harmony with the earth, best friends Puwaamuu (a thoughtful, empathetic dreamer) and Nando (a bold, energetic explorer) set out each day to solve a problem—either in the enchanted forest or within themselves. Their journeys are guided by the Wise Tree, an ancient, multi-wood sacred trunk spiritually connected to all living things. Communicating through rustling leaves and warm breezes, the Wise Tree points the children toward the specific story they need to discover that day.

Equipped with magical items—including Puwaamuu's wind-calling rattle and story blanket, and Nando's direction-finding moccasins and pouch of forest treasures—the duo explores a vibrant, living forest where rivers giggle, trees whisper, and animals speak. Alongside a recurring cast of animal guides like Turtle and Beaver, the pair navigates emotional and social challenges, learning lessons about patience, active listening, and teamwork.

Throughout each quest, catchy, call-and-response songs introduce young viewers to Eastern Cree words (such as waachiyaah for hello or chiyamytimun for calm), reinforcing emotional self-regulation, language learning, and interactive movement. At dusk, Puwaamuu and Nando return to the village where the community gathers. The kids act out their adventure through song, theater, and drumbeats. As their lesson is shared, the Wise Tree grows a vibrant new leaf, radiating energy throughout the forest and reminding everyone of the core truth: stories connect us all.
