Manitou

MANITOU begins as a murder mystery. But the killer, the mystery reveals, is an edjan a malevolent spirit summoned by a powerful 'Mitau', Cree for shaman. Other Indigenous cultures have similar murderous creatures, but the edjan is uniquely Cree. The story takes us deep into the world of the Cree - the characters in the community (stoned teenagers, tribal leaders, hunting and fishing families, Elders), their sense of community, their spiritual worldview. It's a world which has not been shown before with this rich, authentic perspective. Manitou is the Cree/Algonquin word for 'spirit alive in all things'.
