Born to be Wild

Limited Drama Series | Co-Production | 6 X 60 Minutes | Adult | Development

In James Bay Northern Quebec two young women, a Cree martial artist and a German Engineer from Saxony witness the brutal murder of Indigenous activists by mining company goons. What does the company want to hide? And can they find the answer before the company kills them, too? To survive they join forces against corrupt miners and deadly military personnel and escape on a road trip trying to save their lives - and paradise as well.

In James Bay, Northern Quebec, a group of young Indigenous activists are brutally murdered after investigating the presence of huge trucks of a mining company.

Winn, a Cree martial artist and Annika, a German engineer and daughter to the mining company’s CEO, witness the terrifying sight. Winn’s brother, Tom, was of the group. With both of their lives now threatened by the company’s goons, the two women must work together despite their aversion for one another to try to find out what happened and why.

In the meantime, a new campaign for answers emerges in their community for the disappeared activists. Winn and Annika do not know who to trust and their quests for the truth will force them to escape to a remote bush camp north of Whapmagoostui (Great Whale River). The Cree family hiding them at their bush camp awaken in Winn an appreciation for her culture she has ignored for so long, which brings the two women together. But of course, they are tracked down. The only way to be safe is to expose what the company did. They will have to go to the heart of the beast - the Consortium itself in Toronto - to find answers.

There, they uncover a plan to seize control of Canada’s precious minerals’ locations and a deeper conspiracy threatening both Indigenous and Quebec sovereignty against foreign powers.

Their quest will lead them on a journey of understanding humanity’s relationship to the land, of grief and of community. They will realize that both have a distinct yet similar duty to their planet and the people around them.
