Film will be featured at brand new Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles
The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures will feature material from Rezolution Pictures’ acclaimed documentary Reel Injun within one of its core exhibitions, as it opens in Los Angeles on Sept. 30.

A seven-minute clip from the film, as well as research notes and a page from the transcript, will be part of the museum’s Stories of Cinema exhibition, and will be the only media used within it.

The 2009 film, co-produced by Rezolution and the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) and directed by Cree filmmaker Neil Diamond, Jeremiah Hayes and Catherine Bainbridge, uses clips from historic cinematic releases as well as recent films to trace the evolution of the portrayal of North American Indigenous people throughout a century of cinema. It garnered significant critical acclaim upon its release, as well as a Peabody Award and three Gemini Awards, including best direction in a documentary program.

The NFB recently picked up the film for international distribution.

Reel Injun was produced by Bainbridge, Christina Fon and Linda Ludwick for Rezolution, and Adam Symansky for the NFB.

“You know you’re old when you find yourself in a museum… I suppose I should count my blessings that it’s not my bones that are on display,” quipped Diamond in a statement. “Actually, I’m really honored to have our film featured in the Academy Museum. I never dreamed that when I was a kid watching Hollywood cowboy and Indian movies in Waskaganish —-my home community in James Bay, Quebec -— that one day our movie would be featured in Hollywood.”
