The River is a provocative, one-hour dramatic series that delves into the real-life underground world of smuggling along the porous Canada/US border.
Known as the “black hole” of smuggling, the St. Lawrence River is a conflict zone for the American, Canadian and Mohawk Nations who share it.
The series explores how one small decision by the Canadian government to raise taxes on cigarettes pushed Big Tobacco, the mob and the Mohawks into bed together to create a massive, multi-billion dollar smuggling operation that started with cigarettes and led to the smuggling of drugs, guns and people into Canada and the US.
